Established in May 2009, the St Donats Atlantic Chorale is a mixed choir of some 55 voices who share the love of music, the joy of singing and the pleasure of good company. Led by one of the most imaginative choirmasters in South Wales, Carl Grainger and based in St Donats Arts Centre near Llantwit Major the choir is going from strength to strength with requests to perform in some of the most impressive ‘spaces’ in England and Wales.

Both the Arts Centre and Carl (who is also Director of the Welsh Sinfonia Chorus) are delighted with the choir and its progress.  Carl says

“Even in the land of song, the birth of a new choir is a rare and exciting event.  I am thrilled by the enthusiasm of the local community and the opportunity to make music in the wonderful rehearsal and performance spaces of St Donats Arts Centre and Castle. They are both superb venues for choral music with magnificent spaces, perfect acoustics and an idyllic setting. The only thing that was missing was a resident choir – and now we have one!”

Taken at Cowbridge Town Hall in July 2013

The choir has attracted support from a number of sources including Vale of Glamorgan Assembly Member and Minister, Jane Hutt:

“I am delighted that St Donats Arts Centre has launched this new community choir. There has already been such a fantastic response from people across the Vale of Glamorgan to join. I am sure that even more will want to do so when they hear them!  I look forward to attending performances of the choir”.

Singers and audiences can expect a wide repertoire of both well known and less familiar music in a variety of styles and newcomers of all ages with an interest in singing are welcome.  In addition to performing at St Donats Arts Centre– the choir has appeared at the Wales Millennium Centre [the first artists on the open stage to receive an Encore] and Bath Abbey.
